GMB 1 listing for store , multiple additional listings for outside sales reps
-
I am working with a business that has setup their google my business as:
1 main GMB for store location with its physical address and unique phone - ie business name "ABC Lumber"
1 GMB account for the business name followed by the city name ie. "ABC Lumber Santa Monica" with an address in Santa Monica and different phone than the store location GMB Account but points to same website.
Another GMB account for called. "ABC Lumber Redondo Beach" with an address and same phone as the Santa Monica GMB account but points to same website.
So basically there is a main account which is the store, and then the sales reps want to create multiple GMB accounts of their own that are service area only accounts.
Do you see a problem with this?

Really helpful answers, thanks!
Okay, so what this business is eligible for is a single listing, representing their single physical location, and this should be located in a single account, although you can give multiple managers access to that account, if necessary.
Right now, having multiple listings for a single location is a violation of these guidelines and could get the company into trouble for spamming: https://support.google.com/business/answer/3038177?hl=en-GB
To create further ineligible listings for service cities where they lack a physical location would also violate Google's guidelines and further heighten the risk of penalties.
To resolve this, the business either needs to ask Google to help them merge the superfluous listings into the main, eligible listing, or if the details of the listings don't match because a fake address has been used, take steps to report that the business never existed there (see article, below to determine the right course of action). That main listing must accurately list the name of the business as its title (with no city names or other keyword modifiers) and should accurately represent the physical address and phone number of the physical business.

I'm so glad you asked about this, and hopefully you can get this company back on a good track with how they're marketing their business. Please, let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks for the questions!
Question 1: There is 1 physical location.
Question 2: There are 2 google accounts
1 google account has the google my business listing for the actual store location. Business called ABC Lumber
1 other google account has 2 google my business listings. This is where they named the business with the city name ie ABC Lumber Redondo Beach and ABC Lumber Santa Monica
Question 3: yes they want to (and have) create listings covering service cities but not cities where the store has a physical location. These cities correlate to their sales territories.

Hey There,
Thanks for bringing this to the community for feedback.
I'd like to ask a couple of questions so that I'm sure I'm seeing this correctly.
-
How many physical locations does this lumber store have - just one in Santa Monica, or are you saying it has 2 or 3 different actual stores that serve customers face-to-face?
-
You are mentioning "GMB accounts" and I want to clarify: do you mean accounts, as in Google accounts used to log into things, are do you mean GMB listings, as in the listings that show to the public when you search for something?
-
Related to question 2, is the sales rep talking about creating accounts or creating GMB listings?
-
Related to question 3, if the sales rep is, in fact, talking about creating listings, are you saying they want to create listings covering service cities but not cities where the store has a physical location?
If you can number your answers to match my queries, I should be able to respond much more accurately. Thank you!

Using PO Box/Virtual Address for local citations, but not GMB?
Hello. So, I am aware that it is in violation of Google My Bussiness's terms of service to use register a PO box/virtual address with GMB, but is it problematic to use such addresses for general link building with local citations, such as local directories and resource pages? Would the cons outweigh the pros (more backlinks)? And what about using one of these kinds of addresses on my website, but not GMB? Is it all so interrelated nowadays that I should steer clear of publishing a virtual address anywhere? That just seems hard to wrap my head around as PO Boxes have served a valuable function for small businesses for some 150 years. Thank you, Jon

Tracking Phone Numbers in Google My Business Listings and Beyond
Hey all, Wanted to run something by you. I am getting pressed to use tracking phone numbers for all of our GMB pages for over 100 locations across the country. Has anyone done this for their own listings or for their clients? Because I will have to do it for GMB, this means I will be sending these same phone numbers out to the other major directories and data sources around the web. The phone numbers do contain the local area code for each city and do directly connect our customers to their specific location without any kind of redirecting. How is Google looking at this? I have read before it is a no-no but have also read it is not a big deal. Any thoughts would be much appreciated! -Ben

GMB departments - what is the setup
Without duplicating i'm looking at a similar setup to this thread There is a marine business that has within it 3 distinct departments, Sales & brokerage, marina and shipyard all within the same location but with unique telephone numbers grouped into sections on the website with the unique numbers. I'm clarifying whether there are genuine distinct customer facing locations for each department. We want to create department pages because each one has unique opening hours. However looking at this I have some questions i'm unsure about. Each department has a unique landline number that routes through to the main switchboard when called, does that matter? The departments kind make the idea of a core G+ page, map page redundant because there are only 3 areas of the business and the departments handle that. So can you have just departments, or should we set up the main 'hub' page as the brand page, linking to 3 departments? Where can I find information on how to correctly set up a department so the connection/hierarchy is in place? Looking around I can't find any instructions.

Should I change my listing title or even my domain
I have a domain for a lawn maintenance company. The domain is something like mycompanyyardcare.com Even though this company do yard care most of the business that is trying to attract is Lawn maintenance. The keywords that most people type when they are looking for this service is "lawn care". Should i change my domain to mycompanylawncare.com instead of mycompanyyardcare.com? Other thing, in the listings or links that I'm creating in directories, the company name is Mycompany yard care & snow removal. Should I change to Mycompany lawn care & snow removal?

Local sites to make sure I'm listed in - which ones?
I'd love to know what sites this community deems most important when looking at whether my business & site are listed there. I know the obvious - Google Places, Yahoo Maps, Bing Local, Yelp. Foursquare. What others do you consider to be "mission critical" to the general market? Thanks!

What to do with duplicate Listings for Business in Moz Local Tool?
Hi Everyone! Just another newbie Local SEO looking for a solution. I was searching my business listing in Moz Local and it returned two addresses.

Listing #1: 925 B Street #402 San Diego, CA 92101, 67623
Listing #2: 925 B St, #402, San Diego, CA, 92101 Do I need to remove the listing with two zip codes showing up? (I don't see any of my profiles showing up with two zip codes though.) Listing #2 is accurate yet the local moz tool tells me that my Google+ page is 69% complete. How is it possible that Listing #1 scored a 97% complete on Google+? Would you recommend putting the suite number in Address Line 1 or separated in Line 2? Does it even matter? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!0 -

We only mention the real name in the About Us. CABINETS BAY AREA it is more as a deparment of the real business name HEMA DESIGN CENTER What should i do? Thanks a lot, David
