Duplicate Content errors - not going away with canonical
-
I am getting Duplicate Content Errors reported by Moz on search result pages due to parameters. I went through the document on resolving Duplicate Content errors and implemented the canonical solution to resolve it. The canonical in the header has been in place for a few weeks now and Moz is still showing the pages as Duplicate Content despite the canonical reference. Is this a Moz bug?

The problem is that you are implementing a canonical from all those parametrized pages to http://mathematica-mpr.com/news/, and the content in that page -an empty result list- is not the same as in the original link you provide in your post -which show article results.
Canonical is used to show a preferred URL for a page, when there are two or more URLs which lead to the same content. After implementing the canonical, you have to make sure you are not linking to the "bad" url or it will never disappear from Google's SERP.
As your content is not the same on both pages, and the old URL is still accessible from your site, you are not fullfill the requirements to make those URL disappear.
I think that if you don't want those index to appear on the SERPs as depending on the search options it will lead to very common pages, and it is almost impossible to identify clearly a canonical reference for them, the best option is to add to robots.txt a line which blocks those parameters, and you will end with that problems.
Disallow: /news/?facet=*
This will remove your search results from the index, ending with duplication problems. Please make sure this is what you want, or if you prefer to keep those results although you continue having duplication issues.

How do I fix 5xx errors on pdf's?
Hi all, I'm having a huge (and very frustrating) issue-- I have 437 pages with 5xx errors and have no idea how to go about fixing them. All of them are links to pdf's, and when I click on the link on the Site Crawl page, it opens just fine. I've been trying to find the answer to how to fix this issue for weeks with no luck at all. I tried linking the pdf's to their parent page, tried renaming the links to be more concise and crawler friendly, and I've searched all types of articles involving pdf's and 5xx errors, all with no luck. Does anyone have any idea why these pages are getting this error and how I can fix them? Huge thanks in advance! Daniela S.

Competitor Ranks Highly Despite LOTS of Duplication
One of my Moz campaigns tracks my main competitor. I can't get over the fact that this competitor continues to rank well despite having thousands of duplication issues while I currently have less than 10. Our websites are similar both structurally and product-wise. The two images attached include OSE comparisons for the keyword "kraft envelopes". My competitor ranks #2 for the term, while I rank #9. I don't get why! And again, looking from a top-level perspective, MOZ shows that my competitor's website is full of duplication issues and other problems while my site is healthy as a horse. All responses are greatly appreciated. QmSlfET.jpg 9CDny60.jpg

301 Redirect & Canonical Tags
If I have URL A and need to 301 Redirect to URL B but want to have a canonical tag on URL B pointing to URL A Would this be considered cloaking? My server which runs .net 3.5 does not allow me to do URL re-writes.

Duplicate pages with canonical links still show as errors
On our CMS, there are duplicate pages such as /news, /news/, /news?page=1, /news/?page=1. From an SEO perspective, I'm not too worried, because I guess Google is pretty capable of sorting this out, but to be on the safe side, I've added canonical links. /news itself has no link, but all the other variants have links to "/news". (And if you go wild and add a bunch of random meaningless parameters, creating /news/?page=1&jim=jam&foo=bar&this=that, we will laugh at you and generate a canonical link back to "/news". We're clever like that.) So far so good. And everything appears to work fine. But SEOMoz is still flagging up errors about duplicate titles and duplicate content. If you click in, you'll see a "Note" on each error, showing that SEOMoz has found the canonical link. So SEOMoz knows the duplication isn't a problem, as we're using canonical links exactly the way they're supposed to be used, and yet is still flagging it as an error. Is this something I should be concerned about, or is it just a bug in SEOMoz?

Wordpress Plugin Causing Mobile Switcher 404 Errors
Hi All, Has anyone seen this 404 error before? I installed a wordpress plugin that would allow users to switch between a mobile and desktop theme. This was about 6 months ago and I thought nothing of it. Since I am new to SeoMoz, I have become aware of this lovely problem. After setting up my campaign, I now have 1600 something 404 errors due to this plugin. It looks like this plugin creates 4 to 5 links for each one of my posts and they all return up as a 404 error. Example: http://frogfanreport.com/football/page/36/ or http://frogfanreport.com/football/page/36/?wpmp_switcher=desktop I just noticed this morning in Google Webmaster tools that the errors are starting to show up there. Has anyone seen this? Or know if this is a problem and what to do? zach

SEOMOZ Canonical notices using Wordpress
I keeping getting the notice from SEO Moz Crawls relating to Canonical issues. I have tried Yoast SEO, All-in-One SEO and both insert the appropriate canonical code... Can anyone help determine why the crawls report this notice? Check out seoontario.ca\testamonials for an example. Could it be because the site in my SEOMOZ crawl does not have the http:// prefix? I've now installed FV Simpler SEO, a variant of All In Once SEO, but am getting the same canonical code...
